Rest in His finished work

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. - Hebrews 4:11

In the wilderness, even though God was guiding the Israelites and providing for them supernaturally, their minds were un-renewed to their new unimaginable liberty. The reason why they saved manna for the next day, even though God’s directive was not to do so, was because of their unbelief.

They could not believe that God would supernaturally meet their needs daily. This unbelief was a product of their un-renewed minds, which were programmed from hundreds of years of slavery. Even though they were literally free from bondage, their minds could not comprehend this amazing truth. No matter how supernaturally God met their needs, they constantly complained. And as a result of their unbelief, they could not enter into the rest.

In the New Covenant, we have been delivered from the spiritual death, sin nature, sickness and poverty. Jesus nailed it on the cross. Even though we are a new creation in the spirit, our un-renewed mind is not aware of this mighty deliverance. As a result, people get into unbelief when, for example, they see a physician’s negative report or the see latest financial news. Those reports might be a fact, but the truth is what happened on the cross.

Unbelief will lead us into the deception of depending on our own efforts – we will falsely believe that God will 'move' because we do something. That attitude puts the onus on our efforts when He already did the heavy lifting.

The quails did not fly straight to the mouths of the Israelites. God supernaturally provided quails in abundance, but the people had to get hold of it to eat it.

Our labor then, is to believe in the finished work on the cross.
